My Story

A California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Here to Guide You

My name is Maricarmen Madrigal and I founded Cultura Therapy. I am a CA Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am bilingual in Spanish and of Latinx decent.  This has been an important part of my developing story, that is why I chose Pacific Oaks to complete my masters in Marriage and Family Therapy: with a Latinx Specialization. During undergrad at the University of California, Santa Barbara I double majored in Psychology and Sociology with a minor in Education. I earned my intern hours at a community clinic, which worked with children and families in the Los Angeles skidrow area. After becoming licensed, I found it important to continue to serve our communities by contracting with a couple of insurance panels making therapy accessible to different members of the community.  Aside from my work in this practice, I work for an agency in South Los Angeles providing supervision to counselors working with families who have experienced trauma. I view every single one of these families as people learning how to heal and have healthier lives. I admire my clients' motivation and drive to overcome hard circumstances and learn new skills.  More than any other professional experience, I am a compassionate human who cares about others and is willing to sit with folks on what may feel like their worse days and help them find the light in their own story.

I am a team member of Cultura Therapy, my name is Daibelis Yerena--also known as “Dee.” I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, bilingual in Spanish and of Latinx descent. Due to my cultural background and the diversity of cultures in the Spanish-Speaking community, I chose to complete my Master in Marriage and Family therapy with a Certification in Counseling the Spanish Speaking Client. I received my degree from Mount St. Mary’s University. My undergrad was completed at California State University, Northridge with a major in Psychology. I work for a non-profit agency that services children and families in the Los Angeles skidrow area. I decided to join Cultura Therapy because of my continued desire to support the community. Every child, adult, and family that I have worked with have such a beautiful hope to understand and grow from their personal experiences. The ability to meet with each individual and be able to hold a space to wonder and process what happened to them is a privilege to witness. I hold a lot of empathy and compassion for every person that I have the honor of working with.  I believe that being able to be present, supportive, and nurturing, helps build a connection and is the key to buffering any current stressor and healing from past trauma.
